In honor of Earth Day this past week, I wanted to do a post on some eco friendly fashion brands. My good friend Chris Nunn alerted me to this amazing site http://www.ecofashionworld.com, a perfect resource for all things eco friendly and fashionable. Below are a couple amazing brands that will give your wardrobe a good dose of green and cool.
Manimal, the source of adorably funky moccasins, was created by a native New Englander after her visit to the American Southwest. Each pair of shoes are hand crafted by a small team of artisans and all scrap materials are recycled into another pair of mocs or into their “menagerie” items such as the leather “ribcage”earrings and the pouch belt. They even have vegan versions of some of their styles.
Bhalo empowers disadvantaged women in Bangladesh by providing fair trade employment, training and living essentials such as basic health care and childcare for their children. The result – beautiful handmade scarves, jewelry and clothes in rich colors and eye catching patterns and the opportunity to support these amazing women and their craft.
Oliberté is the first and only sneaker company made exclusively in Africa and fairly employs men and women from countries such as Swaziland and Ethiopia. Materials are natural rubber from Liberia and premium leather from Ethiopia. My favorite pair are their modern version of the desert boot, pictured above, in a fresh navy suede.
