I’ve been admiring Ghurka for some time now, although I’m very late to the party. Ghurka was founded in 1970 when founder Marley Hodgson bid on campaign gear made for a Ghurka officer (soldiers of the Himalayas during the British Raj) stationed in India during the early 1900s. Much as the Ghurka officers were known for their bravery and loyalty, the Ghurka leather brand is known for its durability and superior craftsmanship. The brand caters to the individuality of its customers, and to their “quiet confidence and adventurous spirit”. Ghurka individually numbers and registers each piece they manufacture, an example of the integrity of their product. In a commitment to preserving the American craft trades, Ghurka has all their pieces made by the company’s skilled artisans in their Norwalk, CT factory. Supporting this brand supports the revival of leather manufacturing in the US. Above are some of my favorite pieces.
